I consider myself an agnostic, unable to determine or know if there is a God. As a conservative, however, liberals quite often lump me in with evangelical Christians, or right wing religious fanatics, or right-to-lifers, etc. Conservatives are first and foremost not liberals. I drive a Prius because I like the good gas mileage and it is a good car. I resent people who assume that I am a liberal because I drive one. Some of my best friends are agnostic, atheist and conservative.
Having said all that, it is obvious that we Americans all owe a huge debt to Christianity. The country was founded by English protestants. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution assume the existence of a creator who endowed us with inalienable rights. Our entire system of checks and balances are designed to protect us from government, be it king or republic.
Even without believing in God, it is obvious that a "straw man" is needed superior to our political leaders, or the big government people will take us over. This is why liberals and other leftists have been trying to destroy religion for years. They are all big government people. They know there can be only one religion, the state. They also know that Christianity values individual responsibility, which is anathema to the state. They also know that the "Judeo Christian" work ethic is not particularly sympathetic to unionism or collectivism in general.
Most leftist regimes set about trying to destroy religion, especially Christianity. The most recent examples are in communist countries like the Soviet Union, and history is loaded with other examples. I think all Americans would be wise to defend our Christian and Jewish friends and support their churches and synagogues. These worshippers are one of the last lines of defense against the liberals who want to collectivize us into their Great New Deal Society or whatever true believer name they want to give it.
